The First Lettuce

How is your garden doing? Our lettuce is up!

It is actually growing in one of these ultra-easy and super-cheap makeshift cold frames made of hay bales and old windows. Baby greens are my favorite!

And here is some head lettuce.

Here are my two favorite ways to dress and eat lettuce:

Garlicky Homemade Vinaigrette

Green Salad with Blue Cheese and Easy Dressing

There is garlic involved.

The grapes are putting out their leaves as well – I will be writing a recipe for stuffed grape leaves for Edible Madison a month from now (meanwhile, my other recipe contributions to their website can be found here).

One of the things I really love about baby grape leaves is that delicate pink hue. Can you see it in the picture?

For better or for worse, I always imagined owning a vineyard, romantic comedies be damned.

Well, we’ve got one now!
